Hi. I’m Melanie Miller, LCSW, an anxiety therapist in the New York City area. I help sensitive people—who feel everything deeply and are easily hurt or overwhelmed by jobs and relationships—learn to work with their sensitivity so that anxiety doesn’t control their lives.
My clients quickly move from anxiety and panic that they will no longer be able to maintain a job or relationships to feeling grounded, stable, and strong. They go from keeping themselves small to expanding their lives in fulfilling relationships, work, and creative self-expression. They learn about the important role of anxiety and fear in humans and how to retrain their minds to have a calmer, more empowering response to life events. They learn about their natures as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) and how their childhood response to this sensitivity may have resulted in their current overwhelmed, highly anxious state. Together we find new ways of responding unique to them that are empowering rather than restricting.
For over fifteen years, I’ve helped highly sensitive clients recover from crippling anxiety, panic, and trauma. My clients typically meet with me weekly to get the support and guidance they need to move out of crisis. We focus initially on tools such as breathing, mindfulness, and movement, that can help them move quickly into a calmer state and provide stability so we can move to deeper work that shifts how they feel and function in the world.
