I’m Melanie Miller, LCSW, and I’m a holistic and intuitive psychotherapist practicing online and in Chelsea, New York City. For many years I’ve been working with people just like you, the highly sensitive person, struggling with anxiety, trauma, and emotional and physical burnout.  I’ve been blessed to see clients heal and transform after learning to access powerful but gentle holistic healing processes.

Growing up as a highly sensitive person, I always thought of my sensitivity as something to be fixed.  I could easily feel the pain of others, and was easily hurt myself.  I felt everything deeply, stimuli and emotions.  That was great when it was “good,” but overwhelming when it was “bad.”  I kept pushing myself to be tougher and stronger, but eventually faced emotional and physical burnout.  Just like many highly sensitive people I see every day.  Then with lots of trauma heaped on top and no understanding of my nature, it all became almost too much to bear.   Because I didn’t know how to care for myself as a sensitive person! And how to express myself as a powerful, creative force!

Now thanks to some great healers, teachers, and lots of training, I experience my highly sensitive and intuitive nature as a wonderful gift that allows me to live more fully!  This is a gift I am passionate about sharing with others, to help them live more at ease and in balance with their mind, heart, body, and spirit. And to open up to their full potential.

MY BELIEFS

  • I believe you are the perfect healer of yourself.  Your mind, heart, body, and spirit want you to be healthy, and will lead you to health.  I, as the therapist, act as a facilitator of your innate healing process. 

  • I believe that a basis of holistic therapy is teaching you how to access your own innate healing process.

  • I believe that highly sensitive people need special tools to help them navigate the world so they can have successful lives without burnout.

  • I believe that your life is meant to be lived fully and with the ability to feel joy.  But I also believe that the journey to this fullness may be one of the most important of your life, and may be even the point of your life. 

HOW I WORK:  STEPS TO HEALING

  • The first step is to help you get grounded in your body, and learn how to calm your body and mind.  I often start with having clients practice conscious breathing for quick relief and calming.  And learning grounding and shielding techniques that highly sensitive people need to thrive.

  • Often just knowing you have help and a guide to your healing path makes a big immediate difference!   

  • Once the body and mind are a bit calmer, we can begin to look at deeper subconscious levels, and clear the energy of old traumas that may be keeping you stuck in old unproductive patterns.

  • At the same time, you will learn how to master your own mind, and use the power of your thoughts to positively change your experience.

  • I care about getting practical results, concrete changes in your life—relationships, career, and physical health.  So I specialize in creating exercises to do at home that help you shift personal dynamics that are blocking you, whether it’s mental/emotional habits or subconscious blocks.

My approach is highly interactive and intuitive, grounded in over a decade of ongoing training in contemporary mind-body and mindfulness techniques, practical applications from the growing field of neurobiology, psychoanalytic styles, cognitive-behavioral methods, and exciting new techniques from energy psychology for treating trauma and removing blocks to moving forward toward your goals.

  • I am also a serious student of qi gong (related to t’ai chi).
